you are using an outdated browser. please upgrade your browser to improve your experience. peppi dannee peppi instagram twitter tumblr search for: search for: dannee peppi instagram twitter tumblr search for: an august walk by peppi on august 10, 2018 with no comments hello! i went out alone in the evening, and it was the first time i’ve been walking out alone for a while. i forget how many ideas come to me in the stillness of the mind that comes when walking, one step after another. almost a similar feeling to when i was trekking for days in iceland. unravelling thoughts and feelings like a tangled web, or weaving my own path, i’m not quite sure which it was – both at once, i think. so today i was searching for deer, and i was lucky to find some. i adore many animals, especially big cats, but there is something i feel very connected to when i see deer. there is a magical quality to them. they make me laugh, particularly when they look at me with their great funny faces. and they make me solemn too, when they pretend that i’m not there. actually, deer have inspired the title of my music project. (more on that in another post!) and it’s also a key feature in tribe which i’m continuing to write. ‘tribe’ is its working title in progress. it’ll probably change, but that is what i called it from the first day i started working on it, back when it was just a stand along book and not a huge series. so today, i met these very special new friends. just bathed in the rippling friction of the summer sun. everything felt very alive and all the grasses were whispering and insects were whirling around me. i hope for a moment they really forgot i was there. i wondered if they were enjoying the sunlight as much as i was, whether they were stressed or content. so many feelings in minds we don’t understand. i came out into the final light and there were several fallow deer around, i had been a little nervous because some large red deer had been following me through the woods, and i kept stopping and looking back and they looked like great gangly adolescents. unfortunately the picture of them is blurry because they kept walking at me and i was trying to get away! but this one just captured my heart. a low aeroplane was lazily crossing the sky, following the sun, and this deer looked up and was watching it, a genuine curiosity of what it could be. no fear at all, just a momentary sense of wonder. and august is here, so fast but sure. it’s almost the end of the summer, although they say it will be unusually hot until october. i wonder if we will have another very cold winter too? when it’s hot like this, i can’t help but feel it will be very cold to counterbalance it. the world is just in some balance we don’t fully understand, although we’re learning. one of my dear friends is taking a month off before she starts on her medical course, and she’s using those weeks to blog about some of her experiences. i’ve been thinking too about some of the things i’d like to do this month… journal regularly i’ve been asked for a long time to write a travel blog by people i’ve met through my life. for me i don’t think of this like a blog, but a journal. another way to connect with amazing people and readers, to make new friends, to post photographs of the life i’m living and the places i go, and to think about how i’m growing. about nature, travel, wildlife. the most important things in my life. so i’d like to post here regularly and to put up more pictures, because it pushes me to create and write more. finish some of my songs i have sooo many songs i have written through the last year, let alone the years before that! i used to write poetry in school but as i’ve grown i enjoy song writing much more. it’s a little more fluid i find than poetry, but you can still express wonderful sentiments. and it connects with the music i write. so, that is coming this month i hope. go to more places this won’t be hard to achieve! i already have so many places i would like to go. firstly, i will be going to scotland with olly in september. hope to take lots of amazing photos there, see a country that i’ve only seen a tiny part of so far. then i hope to be down on the beaches of the south west more often, taking photos, getting a breather. and then we would love to return back to africa too, if we can. and so many more things on the horizon! just taking each day as it comes right now. what is on your list for august that you’d like to do? uncategorized , wildlife connecting by peppi on august 8, 2018 with no comments hello! writing again feels like some extreme sport in this heat, but there’s still the whole of august to go and lots that i want to do, so i will just keep writing! and taking lots of breaks for water, haha. at the start of the summer i was dousing myself in cold showers, pressing ice packs against my neck day and night, but i was reading about how actually, that can make you feel even hotter. because you keep heating up, cooling down, and it can confuse your immune system too. so i’ve tried just… ’embracing’ the heat. embracing is such a reluctant word, ha! but i’m trying anyway. today i’ve been writing all day, actually. i felt for a few weeks i didn’t have very much to say. i truly am starting to believe we all have things we have to say, we just don’t give ourselves the time. sometimes they charge out of us, like i just wrote about in my last post, because we haven’t given those words the time to be appreciated and said, and they just have to escape. my favourite thing about this summer has been seeing loved ones and reconnecting with them. often i get stuck with everything i want to do and how much i want to do, and i try to break it all down – why am i doing this? what do i want? well, to express myself, but why? – and after breaking it down a few times, answering the question over and over again, i realise that the reason i want to create and make things is to connect with other people. i think this is something everyone wants really. to connect to their own tribe of people who understand. although i love seeing all my friends, sometimes in bigger groups i struggle to easily find connections. if everyone is talking at once, it’s so loud. and it’s easy to have discord and disagreement over the little things. i’ve spent a lot of time one-on-one with people and reconnected with them in such a strong way. realising that actually, the person i thought was very different to me and thought that i travelled and trekked too much, actually wants to trek more themselves, and they want to do more outside and go away for weekends just anywhere and everywhere. realising that a friend who can be a little abrupt sometimes, actually has a lot of things they are dealing with. the person who i feel is always charging around doing everything and never being less than 90% productive, has actually had a weekend off! connecting with people, one on one, where i can look them in eye, has made me less afraid of everything they achieve. i less see them on pedestals, unapproachable and not understanding, and more as someone to connect with and learn from. and that means i have to talk more and write more, and be more open and unafraid. which feels hard. but it gets easier. i’ve learned my relationship with myself can be reflected by my perceived relationship with other people. when i was a lot younger, i used to not enjoy being in the presence of others. i felt lonely because they wouldn’t understand me, irritated because they were distracting me from time i just wanted with myself. and then growing older, i started to learn what these creeping feelings really mean. when i’m momentarily frustrated at others who are close to me – they are trying to distract me! they aren’t letting me do what i want to do! blah blah! – it’s always because i’m frustrated with myself. i’m getting distracted and i don’t know why! i can’t do what i want to do, and i don’t know what’s holding me back! perception is so powerful.
